Lake Kipawa is big - you'll have over 1300 miles of shoreline to explore.  However, it's not a big round bowl like some other lakes, so many fishermen find themselves comfortable in exploring only one or two of the main bays of the lake.  Some of the best walleye fishing is close to camp!  Most of the fishing is done in Taggart Bay itself.  For the adventuresome fishermen, there are many other bays, both big and small, shallow and deep, to investigate.  We guarantee there are more places to fish Lake Kipawa than there is time to fish it!  If you don't believe us, just check out a bathymetric (depth) map of the portion of the lake we usually fish:

Walleye are the fish most visitors to Taggart Bay Lodge are seeking, and there are plenty of them.  10 pound walleye are caught almost every week.  You can count on catching good eating-size walleye which average around 2 pounds.

Pike provide exciting action, especially in the numerous remote lakes we have access to.  Many of the pike caught in the main lake are taken while walleye fishing... some with a walleye in their jaws!

And then there's the Lake Trout.  This is the biggest and most powerful fish in the lake!  The lake record is 52 pounds.   While you may not top that record, trout over 10 pounds are not uncommon.

Some of our remote lakes contain Smallmouth Bass.  They can provide hours of fun, especially when a topwater bite is underway!  Bass are often seen leaping into the air as they chase dragon flies, returning to the water with a resounding splash a second later.

One of our favorite weekly events is our Fish Fry - click here for more info!
